Stacy @ Malay Mail - From 'fantasia' to reality

THE 'instant celebrity' stigma is probably nothing new to the Akademi Fantasia (AF) alumni. Quite a few even made their mark in this year's 24th Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL24) which means that maybe, just maybe, some of them have... real talent.

The three young stars — Hafiz, the winner of AF7; Akim, the second runner-up and Stacy, the winner of AF6 — all of whom are in the finals of AJL24 — are all set to prove that they are not just a bunch of 'instant stars' who became popular from a reality show.

Together with another AF-born star Aizat, the three will be battling it out at Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil this Sunday. AJL24 has made history by having the most AF-born stars to compete in the competition, so far.

Hafiz will be performing Masih Jelas, a composition of Aidit Alfian and Ad Samad; Akim will sing Bengang, penned and composed by Syeikh Qalam and Amir while Stacy belts out Edry KRU's Pakai Buang. Aizat made it to the final with two songs — Pergi, composed and penned by Pete Teo and Amran Omar, and Kau Aku, composed by Aizat himself.

Excited about the competition, Hafiz, Akim and Stacy agreed that all participants stand an equal chance to win the coveted title of Juara Lagu this year.

"In AF, we were only competing against each other but now, we are thrown here to fight against those who have far more experience in AJL. However, I must say that being able to make it in AJL is already a satisfying achievement for me. What's important now is to deliver a memorable performance," said Hafiz in an interview recently.

"Enfiniti Productions and Astro Entertainment Sdn Bhd have been generous enough to provide me with the facilities to prepare myself for AJL24. Vocal and choreography classes have been provided for me to sharpen and polish my performance, with Pat Ibrahim providing some choreography steps for Masih Jelas.

“On my personal routine, I am also preparing my stamina by jogging and limiting outside activities to ensure that my health will be at its best during the competition,” he added.

For Akim, his main concern for AJL24 is definitely his vocal performance. "I am looking forward to the competition, not only because I will be competing with other experienced performers, but because I will be sharing the same stage with other AF alumni. We come from the same platform and of course, to finally meet at a prestigious competition as AJL, this means a lot," said Akim.

The only female AF representative in AJL24 is Stacy and her aim is to give her best. "I have to strike a balance between vocal and dance routines so that both will shine during AJL24," she said. "I have been practising with my back-up dancers since two weeks ago. New routines will be added to the choreography."

On her closest competition, Stacy said she is looking forward to watching Misha Omar's performance. "Everyone knows that Misha has her own style of performing every time she's on stage. I have a feeling that she will be doing something fantastic in AJL24."

Having born from the most popular reality programme in Malaysia, many of us may believe that these kids have had everything handed to them on a silver platter. However, the reality is that their road to success has never been easy and for these 'instant stars', they are not spared from hardship.

Lady luck is definitely smiling on these three young stars, especially with their inclusion in the AJL24 this Sunday. For all the action and nail-biting performances, watch the much anticipated AJL24 this Sunday on TV3 at 9pm, or head on down to Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil to see your idols perform up close.
